Come in for a night of sparring and fun. Bring your sparring gear and leave your ego at home. Open to all belt levels.
October 2011
Are you ready to move up to your next rank? Testing will be Oct. 18 and 19th. Sifu Rick will let you know if you are ready. This is taken from the Shaolin Do Student Handbook.
Testing for your next belt is a process of demonstrating that you have learned the required material and are able to execute it with precision, power and speed (in that order of importance). Your are never tested unless your primary instructor deems you ready. (This means few people ever fail a test and you almost never have to pay your test fee more than once per level). When Grandmaster Sin is testing, you will first be pre-tested by your primary instructor (the pre-test is free) to insure you are ready. It is an honor to test before the grandmaster and quite an exhilarating experience too. You should view your test a as rite of passage and something to revel in, not a dreaded examination. We understand that many adults have not been "tested" in this way for many years if at all. That's why we make certain you are ready to test so that all you have to deal with is "test anxiety" and not the material itself. Remember, only daily challenge can transform.
Testing Protocol
1. Wear a clean uniform in good repair and follow the rules for jewelry and nails as usual
2. You will first bow to the instructor upon rising when your name is called.
3. After you have executed the form, bow and then bow to the instructor as you await further directions.
4. Should you begin to run out of room, stop and bow, turn (or back up if necessary) and continue.
5. Should you make a mistake, bow to the instructor and repeat the form if it is a short kata or sparring technique. If it is a long form you can bow and then take up where you left off.
6. Never show any emotion during a test (I.e. irritation with yourself) and never swear. It is poor sportsmanship and will put a negative gloom over your test causing you to make more mistakes. Think positively!
7. Be prepared to be tested over everything you know up to your level. If you are testing for black belt, be prepared to perform all material from white to black! Sparring is also a component of your test. You should demonstrate your ability to defend and to attack WITH CONTROL. Don't get crazy during the sparring portion. Those who humiliate their sparring partners during the test only make themselves look bad.

In two days I have seen Tai Chi on three different news services. Here is just a snippet from AOL News.
Tai Chi's potential for alleviating the health problems of those suffering from fibromyalgia was put forward by a study out of Tufts University, published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine.
The condition is a mysterious one that remains difficult to diagnose. Patients suffer from stiffness, chronic pain, sleeping difficulty and mental health symptoms like depression. At this point, doctors often rely on a combination of medication, exercise recommendations and psychological therapy to mitigate discomfort.
The Tufts researchers split 66 fibromyalgia patients into two groups. The first partook in twice-weekly Tai Chi classes and performed their own routines at home. The other group participated in simple stretching exercises.
Over twelve weeks, those doing Tai Chi reported significant improvements in pain levels and psychological wellness.
"Fibromyalgia is so common, and we have such a difficult time treating it effectively. It's defined by what the patient tells you," Dr. Robert Shmerling, who co-authored an editorial on the study, told the New York Times. "So, that these results were so positive for something that's very safe is an impressive accomplishment."

some of us recently were taught out Liu Hsing - Meteor Fist by Grandmaster Sin The'. It is an amazing form, I was sore for days after. You may ask yourself, "Do I really need to take these other katas?" these "extra" katas help out your curriculum katas. Some of these are well above our respective ranks but when you see the complexity of them they make your material feel easy.
I've seen just a couple of times when seminar material has been introduced as curriculum later, Chen TaiChi 83 for example. Grandmaster Sin the' visits twice a year and this is one way we support him and our art. I also will teach a seminar to further your martial art arsenal.
Support your school and your art, take a seminar.

Wow! All this happened so fast. I've been looking for a new location for some time. I had in my head that by March we would be in a new place. The site I had chosen fell through and I was in despair. I called around and found a place 3X BIGGER than our current school! If you were in class Thursday you saw my excitement.
Students, I need your help, tomorrow's Tai Chi class will be our official "last class". We will pack trucks, vans, SUV's, and whatever to move to our new location. It should take us no more than 2 hours to move it all.
I also need to say that due to inspections and NO ELECTRICITY yet. Our OFFICIAL FIRST CLASS will be February 8th at 5:45. Please bear with me on this transition.
Our new location is at 7950 Mainland SATX 78250
